‘Make Tea Not War’
Making tea can become a meditative ritual as well as relaxing and rejuvenating. For me it helps me to slow down and focus on what I am about to do, and become more present in the moment…
I fill the kettle and take a deep breath
I choose the tea that best suits my mood, for example today I needed some warmth and sweetness so I chose the licorice orange tea my Mum bought me!
listen to the water boil and pour into the tea pot
smell the aroma of the tea as the hot water pours over it
watch the steam rise from the top
feeling the warmth of the cup in my hand
tasting the tea in my mouth as the flavors and heat permeate the palate
This is true quality of time, reminding us to slow down and use our senses and to appreciate the simple pleasures in life. And as I read on a sticker somewhere to ‘Make tea and not war’, I think there may be more to that than we realize!
